You just need a few ingredients for this hands-on activity. Your students will love cooking and eating their creations. They can use math for measuring the ingredients to make applesauce. This is a great opportunity for students to learn how to follow written directions and to write the steps in making applesauce.

Investigating Apples

Give each student an apple. They can examine the physical features of the apple, weigh and measure their apple, and study the inside of the apple. As they do each activity, students can write down their findings.

Survey your students to find out their favorite type of apple and their favorite way to eat apples. You can even have different types of apple cubes available so students can have a taste test. Then students can complete the graphs from the results. Provide questions about their graphs.
